My Food Pyramid & Money Game

We combined healthy diet with Money learning. For every food group I consume in a day, I get to pocket a penny/nickel/dime/ quarter per serving as specified in the pockets. We made little pockets out of transparent album sheets and stick it to the wall and put matching color sheets to go with the food group in the chart. Nice incentive to consume food in all groups and cool way to learn money. This is my food (piggy) bank - I can use the money I earn towards things of my choice. :-)

  1. Wow, the blog for your son is awesome. I also homeschool my son, who is 7. Where do you get all your ideas? Have you ever thought about putting them in pdf formats, or making a book about all the cool games you have? You are a very talented person.

  2. Thanks Dana. Ideas are from my imagination. Sometimes I think of putting a book but then I never took those thoughts to the next step. :-) But that is very sweet of you to encourage me.
I visited your sites and your kids are sooo..cute and the sites are great.

  3. If I had the ability to draw, maybe I could come up with creative games like the ones you've created. You don't mind if I copy some of your games, do you? If so, are those folders you use for the game boards, and where do you get your manipulatives?

  4. Oh My pleasure Dana. Feel free to use any idea you found it useful from mine. Yeah, those are file folders. For playing pieces, I normally use any small toy parts. I use flashcards and play pieces from different store bought board games and use my game idea. You dont need to know how to draw..just use any picture from colorful worksheets(work books) and make a game board using file folders. May I know where you are located? If we are nearby, I could share my game boards with you.

  5. I am in Washington, about an hour south of Seattle. I've really enjoyed looking at your blogs. You are very talented, and your son is lucky to have you. I find with 3 kids, sometimes my creativity gets pushed out the window when it comes to homeschooling. I rely on other people's curriculum because I don't have the time to think of my own little games and activities. I can't believe you're teaching multiplication to your son. He must be very bright.

  6. Thanks Dana, He is a darling. You wouldnt believe what he went thru in his life - lots of hardships. This is a rebirth for him (for us too) simply put. He is a blessing from above.
